Andrie Panayiotou

Public Health Assistant Professor

Assistant Professor Andrie Panayiotou is an epidemiologist with interests in the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease. Her work focuses on identifying risk factors and biomarkers which can be used to better identify individuals with pre-clinical atherosclerosis. The identification and early treatment of such individuals is essential to the success of efforts to reduce the impact of ischemic heart disease on mortality and morbidity in Cyprus.

Since joining Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health (CII) in 2011, Dr. Panayiotou has established the Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Genetics Research Laboratory (http://www.cut.ac.cy/faculties/hsc/cii/).

Panagiotis Kouis

Research Associate

Panayiotis Kouis is a biologist with a PhD in Environmental Health. He is the project manager for LIFE MEDEA under the University of Cyprus, and is also involved in the Primary  ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) diagnostic testing in Cyprus; a rare, inherited, long-term condition that children are born with.  His research interests include respiratory physiology and respiratory epidemiology, Cardiovascular Disease and Public health.

 

Andreas Kousios MD

Research Associate

Dr. Andreas Kousios is a practicing Nephrologist and holds an MSc in Molecular Medicine. Currently, he is working as a Clinical Research Fellow at Imperial College NHS Trust. His research interests include Cardiovascular disease associated with Chronic Kidney Disease and paraprotein related renal diseases.

 

 

Andreas Tifas

Research Associate

Andreas Tifas is a nurse with a PhD in Applied Ethical Philosophy of the Faculty of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He also holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an Master’s degree in the Management of Health Units from the Open University of Cyprus. He has been working as a Nursing Officer at the Larnaca General Hospital since 1999, and as a Professor in Philosophy and Nursing at the University of Nicosia in the last 2 years. His research interests include Ethics, Applied Ethical Philosophy, Biopolitics, Nursing, Psychology and Applied and Nursing Ethics.

 

Alexandros Hadjivasilis MD

Research Associate

Dr. Alexandros Hadjivasilis is a physician and a recent graduate of the master program in Public Health at CII from the Cyprus University of Technology. His research interests include evidence based medicine and public health related topics.

 

 

Daphne Kleopa

PhD candidate – Research Associate

Daphne Kleopa is a Public Health Nutritionist with a BSc (Hons) in Bioscience Nutrition. She holds an MSc in International Public Health Nutrition and an MSc in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She is currently a PhD candidate at CII at the Cyprus University of Technology. Her research interests include nutritional and geographical epidemiology, health inequalities and the social and physical determinants of health.

 

Galatia Photiou

PhD candidate – Research Associate

Galatia Photiou is a Mathematician with a BSc in Mathematics from University of Crete. She holds an MSc in Environmental Health from the Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health in association with the Harvard School of Public Health. She is currently a PhD candidate in Environmental Health at CII at the Cyprus University of Technology. Her research interests include the fields of biostatistics and epidemiology.

 

Georgia Livieri

PhD student-Research Associate

Georgia Livieri holds a BA in Classical Philology, and an MA in Moral Philosophy with Speciality in Bioethics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has obtained further training in Germany, Austria and the U.S.A, specializing in Bioethics, Human Rights and Public Health. She is currently an Ethics Researcher at the Hellenic Institute on the United Nations Affairs, and working as an Ethics Consultant to European projects in collaboration with many Health IT Companies in Greece. Georgia is currently a PhD student in Bioethics and Health Policy at CII at the Cyprus University of Technology. Her research interests include ethical issues arising from the use of Health Big Data for the investigation of epidemics and the diagnosis of diseases.

Prodromoula Zisimou

PhD student-Research Associate

Prodromoula Zisimou is a registered nurse-midwife with a BSc in Nursing and an MSc in Midwifery in the Department of Health Sciences at the Cyprus University of Technology. She is currently a PhD student in Public Health at CII at the Cyprus University of Technology. Her research interests include the promotion of natural and normal birth, women’s mental health including midwives, women’s reproductive and sexual rights.

 

Stavria-Artemis Elia

PhD student-Research Associate

Stavria-Artemis Elia is a mathematician-statistician with a BSc in Mathematics and Statistics from Newcastle University in the UK. She holds an MSc in Mathematical Medicine and Biology from The University of Nottingham and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from CII. She is currently a PhD student in Cardiovascular Epidemiology at CII at the Cyprus University of Technology. Her research interests include epidemiology and biostatistics, population dynamics, Bayesian modelling and cardiometabolic diseases.
